It's not even midnight! Alleluias are ringing!
There is a lot of stuff out there. Now I'm apparently out there a lot as well. (How many passwords do I have now????) Some areas need a librarian to come help them to organize it. You still have to know what you are looking for and how to find it. Others are so easy and helpful. My favorites as far as helpfullness and ease are zoho, library thing and library elf. It has been a neat journey, I have shared all sorts of information with lots of people. As recently as tonight the diversion into SECmoz's land helped for a medical question we had for a patron. Right now Terri is enjoying a good giggle at my UTube Rust Diary.
We must always be avalible and knowledgeable to we can help our patrons find what they are looking for and to be able to show them new ways to get information, that way we look smart and we are!

Aimexpress. Just call me if you need to get up with me instantly, I'm never at my computer, my computer is off line on a bus.
Really Aimexpress is awkward to use at best. Wouldn't want to recommend it.
I've asked yclanswers to be my buddy.
No one likes me, I'll be out eating worms with Tom!
My aimexpress name is rollingbooks- if you can get there from the main page. I couldn't even find a good way to search it.
Running away quickly from this task.....

Well I have a sort of My Space page. That site is a pain. I do have two friends named Tom, but none named YCL. Poor me. It was a good thing that you linked YCL's myspace page in the task list, cause I don't think I would have just found that on my space on my own. Our library page is OK but is that really going to get people to use our web page or library??

I have asked the York County Library's my space page to be the friend of my my space page.
No response so far.

Library elf!

Elves, Vernon Grant- near the library elves!
I love library elf. I thought it was interesting that they are not currently under the Patriot Act and they do not keep an history list. I don't believe that I have to worry about my records being subpoened. Now where did I put those salicious books?
Anyway- punchy near the end- I love the calendar that shows date due at a glance. They sent me an email today. In 3 days I'll be overdue. But the best feature will be seeing mine, Gordon's and Rich's books in one long list no more going to three records to figure out who has what.
Pod Casts and Online Classes
I took an online course this summer (hence I'm working on all this other last minute) It was offered by the University of North Texas. Library Education @Desktop "Reaching Reluctant Readers" I earned 1.5 Continuing education hours (want to see my certificate of completion? dated July 31, 2007!)
On the pod Cast front LibraryLoft the Teen Web site for the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County has pod casts about Teen Dating Violence. 1 in 9 women will experience this. Scary fact. What a neat place to offer this information. The library web site is safe and reliable and you don't have to get everyone involved to find the information you want. Teens need a safe place where they feel everyone is not staring at them.

Other Web 2.0 sites
This is a really neat way to link many aspects of illness together for one person. Easy to use and lots of information. Covers information in an easy to understand way. What a boon for people who are researching something for themselves or a family member

It might not occur to most people that monthly stats are something a new person would need to know how to do but we have to do stats every day! I like the wiki for straight information. Like a notebook on the computer. Blogs to me are more like email. Anyone can respond in anyway they see fit. So each one, wiki's and blogs have their place. Wiki's definitely have more edit and publishing features.
