Wrapping UP!!

It's not even midnight! Alleluias are ringing!

There is a lot of stuff out there. Now I'm apparently out there a lot as well. (How many passwords do I have now????) Some areas need a librarian to come help them to organize it. You still have to know what you are looking for and how to find it. Others are so easy and helpful. My favorites as far as helpfullness and ease are zoho, library thing and library elf. It has been a neat journey, I have shared all sorts of information with lots of people. As recently as tonight the diversion into SECmoz's land helped for a medical question we had for a patron. Right now Terri is enjoying a good giggle at my UTube Rust Diary.

We must always be avalible and knowledgeable to we can help our patrons find what they are looking for and to be able to show them new ways to get information, that way we look smart and we are!

Aimexpress. Just call me if you need to get up with me instantly, I'm never at my computer, my computer is off line on a bus.
Really Aimexpress is awkward to use at best. Wouldn't want to recommend it.

I've asked yclanswers to be my buddy.
No one likes me, I'll be out eating worms with Tom!
My aimexpress name is rollingbooks- if you can get there from the main page. I couldn't even find a good way to search it.

Running away quickly from this task.....
Well I have a sort of My Space page. That site is a pain. I do have two friends named Tom, but none named YCL. Poor me. It was a good thing that you linked YCL's myspace page in the task list, cause I don't think I would have just found that on my space on my own. Our library page is OK but is that really going to get people to use our web page or library??

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=250546105

I have asked the York County Library's my space page to be the friend of my my space page.
No response so far.

Library elf!

Elves, Vernon Grant- near the library elves!
I love library elf. I thought it was interesting that they are not currently under the Patriot Act and they do not keep an history list. I don't believe that I have to worry about my records being subpoened. Now where did I put those salicious books?
Anyway- punchy near the end- I love the calendar that shows date due at a glance. They sent me an email today. In 3 days I'll be overdue. But the best feature will be seeing mine, Gordon's and Rich's books in one long list no more going to three records to figure out who has what.

Pod Casts and Online Classes

I took an online course this summer (hence I'm working on all this other last minute) It was offered by the University of North Texas. Library Education @Desktop "Reaching Reluctant Readers" I earned 1.5 Continuing education hours (want to see my certificate of completion? dated July 31, 2007!)
On the pod Cast front LibraryLoft the Teen Web site for the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County has pod casts about Teen Dating Violence. 1 in 9 women will experience this. Scary fact. What a neat place to offer this information. The library web site is safe and reliable and you don't have to get everyone involved to find the information you want. Teens need a safe place where they feel everyone is not staring at them.

Other Web 2.0 sites

This is a really neat way to link many aspects of illness together for one person. Easy to use and lots of information. Covers information in an easy to understand way. What a boon for people who are researching something for themselves or a family member

www.medstory.com
A search engine for all things health-related, Medstory lets you search for your health query, presenting you with ways to refine your search by disorder, drugs, studies and more, as well as links to doctors who have done studies etc. in that field.

My wiki

http://rollingbooks.pbwiki.com/

It might not occur to most people that monthly stats are something a new person would need to know how to do but we have to do stats every day! I like the wiki for straight information. Like a notebook on the computer. Blogs to me are more like email. Anyone can respond in anyway they see fit. So each one, wiki's and blogs have their place. Wiki's definitely have more edit and publishing features.

Net Library

I really felt that Net Library was very easy to use! very easy. Considering how complicated some things become. I found several authors that the Net Library doesn't have but we do. The nice thing is that our Horizon catalog is "linked" to Net Library so it really expands our collection provided you can download to your home computer. There is always ILL if not.

10 again

Oops! second half of #10 I gathered information on childrens outreach programs to see what other libraries and groups are doing in their area. Some of these could be adapted for our use. Shared resources!

#10!

Google Base
It is astounding the amount of stuff put out on the web. Lots of it for personal edification. But back to library related. I decided to research library's children outreach programs. My first search turned up about 1500 responses and I just kept narrowing my search down to find what I really wanted, or at least close to what I was after with 271 hits.

http://base.google.com/base/search?gl=US&hl=en&nd=&showrefine=&q=library+outreach+to+children+-volunteers+-jobs&scoring=ld&us=1

I would probably not use this as a research tool for work. If you used Google as a search engine or another search engine I feel you could get the same information and be able to narrow down your search quicker. This also may be my perception and non familiarity with their "data base".

Del.icio.us

I like to easily link to my "favorite" or most used web pages. This would be helpful from a remote location I guess. If I am hunting down a frequently used site without the URL I could just use a search engine to find it.
The cloud tags were helpful in a couple of instances, but over all I think hunting sites for myself with a subject in mind and a search engine would produce more results. Rather hit or miss in it's approach. Maybe I never cared about what other websites people are looking at?

Here are my taged web pages
http://del.icio.us/gordon96
I created my library thing account! I hope to go back at a later time and add to my list, I love anything that keeps me organized, and provides me with other reading material.

My Bibliography is of Southern Fiction and all the main characters are women

Lets hope this link works better than my zoho link does. Happy reading

Image Generators

This was an interesting task. Letter James worked very well yesterday, but not today. I thought the Dummies book jacket and the Comic strip generators were cute and FD Toys was Ok. I really enjoyed the generator blog, although there were many time wasting pursuits to be found there. I decided to make a rubik cube of the Bookmobile picture. Thankfully it is not in it's scrambled state, the way we usually are. Flexible is our middle name! Image Generators would be helpful if you needed that special something for a program or to make a poster advertising a program.

My You Tube experience was fun. I definitely belive there are lots of people with lots of time on thier hands. I could use more hands, maybe I should contact them. I looked at Denver PL's teen winner video. At some of it I cringed. Book Angels?? At any rate I went hunting Library's Bookmobile videos. I belive that You Tube can be used to promote new services and show specific programs we have at the library. Really it can be used for anything. As I deal with maintenance issues and the Bookmobile I found a great tutorial BKM video, I hope it will NOT come in handy in the future.

search for Fiddle Dee Death.

I really like that I can create documents out there and not tie up space on my hard drive. Or waste countless disks and Cd's storing them. It will all be in one spot accessible from anywhere. YEAH!!! Sure beats the days of typing all my papers on an old underwood typewriter.

This is just too fun and in time for halloween. Bookmobile humor is hard to come by and is rather literary (sort of) :)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sunsetsailor/642750205/

I think that it would be wonderful to do a pictorial scrapbook of the Bookmobile on flickr. We could digitize all our old slides and photos. Or even a virtual tour of the current bookmobile in photos. Digital cameras make it so easy now. I have always thought it would be fun to have a picture in the newsletter "The view from the Bookmobile" and take various pictures out the front windshield. It is amazing what we see while we are on the road.

Fiddle Dee Death

Fiddle Dee Death by Caroline Cousins

For those of you who love a good mystery and southern fiction this book is for you! Set in the low country near Edisto Island three cousins unravel the suspicious death of a man in their Great Aunt Augusta's Plantation home. Their aunt has opened her home to tours, but refuses to refer to people visiting as tourists, preferring instead to call them "guests". Was this "guest" pushed down the attic stairs or did he fall? Why is there a huge cage in the attic and is there really a ghost at Pinckney Plantation? Grab a glass of tea and this book to find out.

Caroline Cousins is actually a pseudonym for Nancy Pate and her two cousins, sisters Meg Herndon and Gail Greer. The cousins in real life mirror their fictional counterparts in being "one and a half times" first cousins. Their mothers are sisters and their fathers are first cousins. Gail is also a former plantation tour guide.
